Then you are stuck with them forever on your clothes…nope! When you do your wash add a little hydrogen peroxide to the load and you will find that your stains will quickly and soon disappear. Then you will no have to put those clothes in your only for gardening clothes pile!

Posted on 01.09.10 by thegardengossip @

I do not like ants outside but even worse is when the venture in the house and in your kitchen!! No problem here is a quick fix just sprinkle a line of flour where they are coming in and they will not cross it. It is really weird and this really works…they will not be in your food again! Plant Photo Gallery
Posted on 01.06.10 by thegardengossip @

There is a site that I have come across a few times. It is called the Interiorscape Plants Photo Gallery and has photos of 145 of the most common indoor plants. It is really cool – and with the internet today it is so easy to find out exactly what plant you may have or have seen in your travels. And you can really enlarge it for great detail on the pictures. Check it out if you have a plant you would like to identify.

Avoid Grease Fires
Posted on 01.01.10 by thegardengossip @

Worried about grease fires with your outdoor grill? No problem here is a way if you can avoid them all together. All you have to do is put some cat litter at the bottom of the grill. Now this all depends on the type of grill that you have. I love cooking on my grill but I am always afraid of that grease fire. Just be sure you do not put cat litter in a grill that is propane…it is mainly for the charcoal and briquette grills.

Obvious But True
Posted on 12.03.09 by thegardengossip @

I am sure many have heard this tip before but just in case you have not or are new to the wonderful world of gardening you want to make sure that when you are putting together your compost materials you add some egg shells. Every time you use an egg in your dishes or meals just put the eggshell back in the box and store them that way. Crush up all the egg shells and add them to your compost becuase it will help break down the materials in the compost.

The Frost Is Here
Posted on 11.17.09 by thegardengossip @

The frost is almost here. But the thing is – we will get that one really cold and frosty night in Spetember but the weather will be still pretty nice until the end of October. So to prevent your small planters from frost if you know a frost is coming just slip a blastic bag over them. This will protect them and you can enjoy your flowers just a little bit longer before the bitter winter really hits!

Corn Silk
Posted on 09.15.09 by thegardengossip @

Picking corn is always fun this time of year. I just love buying fresh corn from vegetable stands that come from local gardens. I just do not like Shucking the corn – I always get all the silk all over the place and I can never quite get it all off of the corn. Here is a great tip that has helped though. Just get a map paper towel and run it down the dear of the corn. The paper towel actually picks up quite a bit of the silk!

Store Your Garden Tools
Posted on 09.08.09 by thegardengossip @

Garden tools are quite expensive so you want to make sure that you store them properly. Take a very large 3-5 gallon bucket and fill it with builder’s sand and then add a liter of motor oil. Put your shovels and other garden tools in the sand a couple of times to lean them. And if you want to prevent rust from forming then leave them in their for storage over the winter. Then you do not have to buy new tools next year!

Green
Posted on 07.09.09 by thegardengossip @

There is nothing like the grass after a rainstorm… everything looks so green. However, when it has been raining for a month straight it really does loose it’s initial appeal. Everything is really green though but if we don’t start getting some sun then we are going to have major bug problems as well as the leaves just changing to a brown because there is no sun. I think the fall folliage will be pretty this year though.

Label Your Garden
Posted on 05.28.09 by thegardengossip @

Here is a great and very inexpensive way to label what you are growing in your gardens. Instead of going out and getting those costly markers you may just want to consider taking a cheaper route. Clean out your water or even milk jug and just cut them up into strips. Write what the seeds are going to be on the markers you made with a permanent marker and just stick it in the ground!

Coffee Can Bird Feeder
Posted on 05.26.09 by thegardengossip @

if you are going to make or have your child make that coffee cand fird feeder then just make sure that the are no jaggared edges. You do not want to cut yourself and you do not want the birds to get hurt either. Then you can decorate it…but it really does not have to be fancy and do not paint the inside because hen the birds will be eating the paint! Simple is sometimes best and in this case the most healthiest solution for your bird friends.

Garden Focal Point
Posted on 05.20.09 by thegardengossip @

I think it is just always nice to have the focal point in your garden. My personal favorite is the trellis and then you can have vines or roses climbing around and up it. and if you can not afford on then you can actually make them. Just get some old wooden straight letters and cut them to the height that you want making 3 sections – 1 or each side and one for the top. Them just get some grapevine or twine and before you know it your ugly old wooden ladders will be filled with beautiful greenery.

So just take some oven clean er and spray it on the stain . Let it site for 10 minutes and then get your pressure washer and hose it down on full power. It should take the stains away.

Rain and Watering
Posted on 04.29.09 by thegardengossip @

Personally, I love to have nice looking plants and yard. However, there has not been alot of rain where I am and I just get very upset to see people wasting water watering their yard and grass in the middle of a hot and sunny day. Don’t waste your water or your time because to water your lawn in the middle of the sunny day is ridiculous…the grass is not getting anything because it evaporates before it gets to the root!

Egg Cartons
Posted on 04.29.09 by thegardengossip @

If you get eggs on a weekly basis then keep the egg cartons. This is also great for all those science teacher too – collect egg cartons. Because it is a great way and very easy and neat way also to start those seedlings out. And each seed is separated from each other and you can label the carton anyway you need to in order to remember what went where!

Decorational Grass
Posted on 04.15.09 by thegardengossip @

I love decorational grass. I think every yard whould have this sort of grass in the yard somewhere. Perhaps you have an area that gets lots of weeds and mulch does not cut it – plant some big decorational grass there and you wil be much happier. And you will not have to weed as much. And it really does just look so nice. If you have a dog though – make sure you get grass that they don’t like to eat 🙂

Landscaping Design
Posted on 04.09.09 by thegardengossip @

I love to do different things every year…whether it being a patio, lights, or other different landscaping ideas. You can either do things yourself or hire a Landscaper in which case you want to make sure that you get a landscaping company that you can trust and that has a good reputation.

I just find designing things on paper during the early spring and then carrying it though in the spring and summer months so fun. There are just so many things and possibilities that one can do with their lawn and yards. Think about it – fences, beautiful arbors, gazebos, fountains, decks and walkways to just name a few.

Unwanted Animals In Your Garden
Posted on 04.05.09 by thegardengossip @

Here is a great way to get rid of those unwanted animals that are lurking around or even destroying your gardens!! All you have to do it take some household cleanse or ammonia and put it on a sponge. Place these in your gardens and no animal will want to come near them no matter what great stuff you have in there for them. All they will smell is the detergent rather than the sweet vegetables or fruits.

Posted on 04.01.09 by thegardengossip @

Here is a good way to keep your houseplants healthy and bug free. Get an empty plant mister or spray bottle and fill it with 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar not liquid soap!!! You are just going to let it sit in the bottle around an hour or two. Then you get rid of that and rinse it out a lot with cold water. Fill the bottle with warm water and mist your flowers. They will be happy and healthy!!

Clean Your Artificial Flowers
Posted on 03.27.09 by thegardengossip @

Here is a tip for you people that love to have flowers in your home but can not maintain them so you get the artificial kind. I actually have a few artificial arrangements in my place and I really like them. I prefer the fresh real flowers but these last a lot longer. However they do get quite dusty and dirty at times. So, what you do is take a bag and fill it with water and 1/4 cup of salt or put it in a bowl. Then put the flowers in and shake it around in the bag or swish it around in the bowl and it will coming out looking as good as the day you bought it!
