Great Gardening Tips

Sugar
Posted on 02.26.10 by thegardengossip @

Ok – so you have probably heard of this one and I do this one all of the time. When you get flowers from your husband or your boyfriend you want ot make sure that you make them last. I put a little ginger ale in with the water but I also put a few tablespoon of sugar in the vase also. And before I put them in the vase I always cut them at a silent underneath running water. They really do last a little longer!

Check Old Seeds
Posted on 02.25.10 by thegardengossip @

Here is a great way to check your older seeds. I know that on occasion I will misplace the seeds that I have purchased and then I will find them a few years later…are they good? Here is a great adn easy way to test them out. Just put a few of the seeds in a wet paper towel…if they sprout over the next few weeks then you should be all set and plant them in your gardens this year. If they do nothing then just throw them away and don’t waste you garden space!

Make Your Own Weights
Posted on 02.15.10 by thegardengossip @

Here is a less expensive way to keep down your out door furniture or to hold them down so they will not move or fly away. Just get an old big water jug or even milk jug and fill it up with sand and you don’t have to buy it just get the sand from your back yard if you have it. Then just get some rope and that should do the trick. Then you do not have to worry about wasting money on weights and sand!!

Pick Up Nails
Posted on 02.13.10 by thegardengossip @

I was making something outside and my niece occasionally likes to try to help me out and it usually ends up in completely disaster and a total mess somewhere. I was building something and she dropped all of my nails all over the ground. Here is a great and easy way to clean up this mess. Just get some magnets and it will be the funnest clean up for a kid..so fun that they may then spill it again on purpose :)
