Great Gardening Tips

Feeding Ferns
Posted on 11.06.07 by thegardengossip @

Here is a great tip for you if you have ferns and they are not looking all that great. I just love potted ferns … but when you water them occationally instead of using water use some brewed tea. The tannic acid in the tea will give the plant nutrients and it will start looking fabulous again! Or you can open the tea bag and put the tea leaves in the soil…that works great too.

Your Cactus
Posted on 11.06.07 by thegardengossip @

Be sure if you have a cactus that you let the soil dry out during the winter months especially. It will actually make the cactus more helathy and allow for the blooms to be more plentiful and beautiful when the do bloom. And do not put fertilizer in the soil either. You will definately notice a differnet in the spring with their blooms. It is weird when you notice that the soil is completley and totally dried do not freak out…just know that you are actually make the cactus healthier.

Overwatering
Posted on 11.04.07 by thegardengossip @

Do not overwater your plants. If you see that your plants are just very droopy then you may want to cut back on the watering. Sometimes that is the easiest fix – Put your plant in sunlight for a few days and see if that will bring it back to life as well as give it tback it’s color that has been seeming to fade over the past week weeks. I always seemed to overwater my cactuses – and that always seems to get them back to what they were like before I overwatered them.

You have to make sure that you water your Christmas Trees and this is also a great tip for water those hanging plants. All you have to do is put a few ice cubes in the pots. Not only will they get their water but you will not have to water them by bracking you back trying to reach up. So every few days just throw a couple in and you will be all set!
