Get Rid of Slugs
Posted on 02.03.17 by thegardengossip @

The beer traps really good if you husband will spare you a beer for your garden :)You just have to make sure that you design it correctly. My first try…I attracted slugs but I didn’t trap them! AH!!

Make sure that the beer is around 5 inches deep and 1 inch below the top of the trap so that when the stupid slugs reach up to get out they fall in.

Lady Bugs
Posted on 06.19.12 by thegardengossip @

Not all insects are bad for your garden. Welcome those that are beneficial and keep away the other pests that could cause harm or possibly even completely destroy your crops or gardens.

Ladybugs will control your aphids, small worms, and other soft-bodied insects problems

Lacewings will control your aphids, scales, spider mites, and egg problems

Trichogramma Wasps will control your moth and butterfly egg problems

Get Rid of Fire Ants
Posted on 02.17.12 by thegardengossip @

Well, this is going to sound weird but you just want to basically burn their house down. And it is really simple because your are going place a flowerpot upside down over the ant hill and then make sure you have scorching hot boiling water and pour it right through the gran hole and basically you will be completely burning down their house. Thus getting rid of those pestky first ants that are just a pain anyways!

Outdoor Potted Plants And Slugs
Posted on 11.18.09 by thegardengossip @

I like to have my potted plants outside sometimes especially during the summer months but slugs will even find their way into your potted plants. So if you do not want them there then just put some sandpaper under your potted plant and they will be sure to stay away.

Get Rid of Fire ants
Posted on 01.08.08 by thegardengossip @

Do you have a fire ant problem on or near your patio…no problem. Just take a flower pot and flip it upside down on top of their home. Then you boil some water and pit it down the drain hole of the flowerpot…it is almost like you are burning down their home and they will not be back to bother you. This is a problem that you really do not want to encounter…believe me!!! They are really nasty to have to deal with and there is usually not just one or two – there are usually hundreds…yuck!!

They Are Everywhere
Posted on 10.31.07 by thegardengossip @

i have a major ladybug problem still. I thought that after the first frost they would be gone…but they keep on coming back! I do not mine 1 or 2 but I have like 30 in my porch now…right now. And it is rather freaky if you ask me. And they all huddle in the corner at night to go to sleep or something. I have been catching them and throwing them out but it is not helping. However, if they are the orange beetles…I have the vacuum right here to just suck them up. The orange ones that look like lady bugs are not.

Major Ladybug Problem
Posted on 10.24.07 by thegardengossip @

I really do not mind ladybug’s but when they get in my house by the 100’s it is a real problem. And right now I have a real problem. There were all in my front porch and this morning they were not to be found. But if you look in the corners they are all huddled together. And some of these are the orange beetles which are not even ladybugs … so I sucked them up in the vacumn canister and emptied them outside. Some of them actually few away when I emptied it too!

Roaches
Posted on 10.19.07 by thegardengossip @

If you have never had cock roaches in your house then consider yourself very lucky. Here is something you can do if you have a roach infestation…first do not panic although that is really hard to do if you ask me. Put sugar and baking powder all over the infested areas. The sugar is meant to attract the roaches and the baking powder will kill them and always leave out a fresh mixture to prevent theme from coming back…or you can call the exterminator.

Repel Those Mosquitoes
Posted on 10.05.07 by thegardengossip @

I just hate bugs and I really hate mosquitoes. I find them to be so annoying and I just can not stand them. Here is the thing though..you can avoid having these pesky mosquitoes hanging around you and your backyard. Next time when you do the laundry keep the fabric softener sheets and just pin them up to your clothesline…they will help repel the mosquitoes.

Dish Soap And Aphids
Posted on 09.01.07 by thegardengossip @

Dish soap will kill aphids even better that the insecticidal soaps however, it may harm your plants. Alwasy be sure to test a small area and only use 1-2 tablespoons of dish soap to a gallon of water and DO NOT use antibacterial soaps…they will hard your plants. Personally, I have had great luck with Equate.

Mosquito Trouble
Posted on 08.28.07 by thegardengossip @

I don’t know about you but the mosquitoes are horrible in my area. We have had the entire area sprayed and still no relief. You can not go outside after 5 p.m. because it is just so bad. Here is a tip for those with the same problem. If you can afford the mosquito magnet it really does work but so doesn’t garlic. Unfortunately if it rains then you have to reapply it but if you have a small back yard this really can help fix the problem.
