Great Gardening Tips

Wreaths
Posted on 10.24.08 by thegardengossip @

A great project to do with your family is to make your own wreathes. I used to do it all the time. There was pine that grew in my backyard that was beautiful but you could not pick all of it – you had to leave some in each area and it would come back more next year. You just get a coat hanger to tie all the pines on. It comes out really nice and is a great project. Fake wreathes to decorate are also quite fun….79 cents at my local AC Moore Store!

I hope that every one has a great great new year!! It is 2008 – it is just really weird that we are already 8 years into the 2000’s I can remember the 80’s like they were yesterday. Well, I hope that everyone has a very nice day and stays safe, happy and healthy this entire new year. And be sure to plant some trees and flowers this year too!

Nice Thanksgiving
Posted on 11.23.07 by thegardengossip @

Well I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I had a wonderful day and it is just really nice to have a nice day with family. I created a beautiful centerpiece that my grandmother just loved so I have it to her. I think that she really liked it. I am just so glad that I decided to make it for her.

The Science Guy
Posted on 11.20.07 by thegardengossip @

So I was watching TV and apparently the Science Guy’s estranged wife tried to poison his flowers and garden with some toxic herbacide. So weird huh? Some people are just out to look for attention. Why not just pull them up or cut them down. And why go after his garden…well I guess he really loves his garden that is why but still. Very weird and strange story.

Raking the Leaves
Posted on 09.10.07 by thegardengossip @

How many people like to rake the leaves? I do not at all. Actually, I like to start but then it gets old really quick. Just be sure to wear your gloves because you will get so many blisters. And I forget every year and then I have the worst blisters that last quite a long time actually. If you are going to rake get a good rake too. There is nothing worst than getting a ton of leaves stuck in everything and the rods breaking off. Fall is here!!

Knee Pads
Posted on 09.07.07 by thegardengossip @

If you wear knee pads for your sports then why not for your gardening. If you know that you are going to be on your knees then go out and get those chap pads that will protect them. You only have one set of knees and they have to last otherwise you will be miserable! And these knee rest pads are so cheap. I got mine at a local Walmart for $5 and right now everything is marked down so you really should go shopping to get stuff for next year.

Bend Your Knees
Posted on 09.06.07 by thegardengossip @

Be sure that you bend you knees when you are doing your garden and lawn work. You do not want to hurt your back. And it can be a great strain on the knees too. I find that if I do not bend properly that I am in pain for quite sometime. And this can be avoided too. Do not pick up things that are too heavy. Know your limits because you could do serious harm. And get help when you need it. You do not have to do everything yourself…even though that is what I think all the time!

Bandaids
Posted on 08.31.07 by thegardengossip @

For really cute and inexpensive bandaids check out the dollor tree or the dollor store. I am always cutting myself or getting splinters and I should just buy stock in bandaids. I found ones at the dollar store that are just so cute. They are bandaids with different flowers on them. No my husband may not like them but he is never doing any work or at least enough work to actually need a bandaid 🙂 My point it you do not need to go out and get the fancy kind when there are ones for a $1 – you can not go wrong!

Sea Shells
Posted on 08.25.07 by thegardengossip @

I love collecting sea shells for my gardens. You have to collect alot to really make it work and I have been doing this for years and I still do not have enough. but I have a little area devoted to my sea shells with plants in between. Use your imagination when you are gardening because you will be so surprised at the beautiful things you can come up with. Try different things and if they fail…oh well at least you gave it a try. But if it works then share it with others and write it down!

Why Do You Garden?
Posted on 03.20.07 by thegardengossip @

Why do you garden? I started gardening when I was in high school because I wanted fresh vegetables…there is nothing like a fresh tomato or the taste of a fresh cucumber. And then I tried my luck with roses. Then I started mapping out and doing alittle landscaping…it just became very addictive and although it was relaxing and fun it is really a lot of hard work if you want something really nice. And then I moved out of my parents house after college and 2 years later…all my hard work was destroyed by the law mower and weed wacker 🙁
