National Arbor Day Foundation
Posted on 05.06.08 by thegardengossip @

I highly recommmend that you get your shrubs and trees from the National Arbor Day Foundation – they have great prices and their trees really do grow. I have had terrible luck with companies such as Michigan Bulg or Owens Nursery…they never grow or they die off. The National Arbor Day Foundation has trees that will last and they are guarenteed. When purchasing plants you want to make sure there is some sort of guarentee!!!

Lilacs
Posted on 09.03.07 by thegardengossip @

Lilacs are fairly hardy and easily maintainable shrubs that can offer a lot of privacy and they smell simply wonderful in the late spring/early summer months.

Here are some problems you may encounter…
Aphids and borers- plain insecticidal soap will kill these off
Insects

Little critters…mice like to borrow in the mulch so int he winter do not put too much on there.

Podery mildew during the humid and hot months. Mix 1/2 cup milk with a gallon of water and spray your plants.
